Cat Poop: The Crap We Bury in Our Souls

Shame And Cat Poop

When Shame Takes Over:

When shame is the base of your identity, it is like HELP, I HAVE FALLEN DOWN AND CAN'T GET UP>. It is a sense of intense lack, self doubt and seeming no resolution.  When we first start working together, we quickly begin to look for the cat shit. The metaphor is: that when we take the crap that we have in life, and we say or think we have “dealt with it” but we really have just buried it in our minds and souls.  And this buried stuff seeps poison in our minds, souls and creates evermore shame. I explain that we will move to be more like dogs…..

People with a shamed based identity may feel depressed, angry, self loathing, a strong sense of never enough, or never lovable and likely will never realize the core issue is shame. People with a shame based identity tend to keep people around them at the shallow level of relationship if at all. They can be the life of the party, but you will never see the “real them”. The idea that they often believe is: “if they know me, they will not like me” is prevalent in their thinking.

Shame is the “hidden source” of these powerful emotions.  We have talked about what shame is in other blogs. The question becomes how do you deal with it.

This is where being more like dogs comes to play. Unlike cats, when dogs poop, they smell it, others around them smell it maybe even taste it. And they literally move on. And the sun light gets on it and it becomes fertilizer.

Learning to recognize the roots of shame in our lives is the first step. Opening up our selves to letting it out, dealing with it can begin to take away the power of the triggers to stop the shame cycle.  There are several tools we use to help folks find peace in themselves, acceptance, and release from anger and self loathing and suddenly they become open to a much different life.

Shame resides in all of us to some level. Toxic shame can bring pain to our lives and the people around us that seemingly has no end. The message is that there is real help! Real answers. You do not have to stay there. There is an antidote to shame. And it begins with breaking through to love and acceptance, digging out the shame you have planted in your soul and replacing it with the truth. And that I call the beginning of a beautiful life!

You may think this sounds simple, it certainly is not. Working through the release of shame process is absolutely liberating.  Freedom is near….#stanlelycoaching. #beautiful-life.  Sign up for a free 1/2 hour session to see if you think this could help you.

Coaching Life Change tools

It has been said that you will be most like your 5 closest friends. In income, success and more. And while this may seem true on the first view, It is only part of the story! There is something much more important. It is where you live! Not where you live in terms of address. That has little to do with success in life, business, love or relationship. It is where you live emotionally. Emotions are the drivers of your life. We all have emotional thermostats. When life gets too much worse than we are use to living we will often do something about it. Maybe get depressed, get coaching or counseling, get medicated. But then if the emotional level gets too good we will do things to get it back to our point of stasis. It is like setting your thermostat to 70 degrees. If it gets to 66 it is too cold or 74 it gets too how. 70 is the comfortable temp. Where is your emotional thermostat? Is it feeling o.k. with brief peaks to a beautiful state and drops to mildly down state that we call normal? Or it is sad with the occasional peak of pleasant ness an brief states of depression. Are you happy with living with your emotional thermostat? What if you could totally change your state to one of a beautiful state as your nomal state? Could it be that it can actually happen. Yes it can. So next is how to change your emotional state.
